A meteorite is a meteoroid that has survived entry into the Earth's atmosphere and landed on the surface, not to be confused with a meteor that usually puts on a remarkable show with a brightly glowing tail that burns up in our atmosphere - also known as "shooting stars". Meteorites come in three forms: Stony, Stony-Iron and Iron rock, there are two type of Stony meteorites - Chondrites are minerals which form small spheres while floating around in space, and Achondrites are usually specimens that have broken off from larger formations, like asteroids or the moon. They can also originate from melted or transformed chondrite meteorites as well.
